Three Weeks

♫ Listen free on Spotify♫

Thursday nights got happy one week when I walked in and saw you
I’ve been down most my life but never once that evening
The Internet didn’t do you justice and it didn’t tell the whole truth
But you would sing to me and the rest of the guys in that room

“Hey, you know,” you said, “we should mess around”
But you were talking ’bout guitars
So I never thought I’d get so far so fast

If you’re gone I’ll go back and stop being the person I am now
(It’s not so bad) It’s not so bad hanging around in the suburbs of this undramatic town
And it was only three weeks anyhow
It was only three weeks anyhow

I didn’t care about the marriage or at least I pretended
You said it was no big deal, so it was no big deal, who was I to say?
Looking past your less than honesty left me time to find out where you’d be
And that Washington is four hundred, fifty-eight miles away

“Without you,” you said, “how could I get lost?”
But you were talking ’bout the subway
So I never thought I’d get so far so fast

If you’re gone I’ll go back and stop being the person I am now
It’s not so bad hanging around in the suburbs of this undramatic, catatonic town
And it was only three weeks anyhow
It was only three weeks anyhow

It’s getting harder
When I touch you
To tell you
(It’s getting harder and harder to tell you)
When you left out how soon you’re leaving
(When you kiss me)
And how drawn out is your separation
(When I touch you)
It’s getting harder
To tell you
It’s getting harder and harder to tell you
It’s getting harder and harder to tell you you’re not to blame
It’s getting harder and harder to tell you

If you were still around I’d say “stay”
And never have a reason to go away
I got lost the first day
And it just gets harder
